"We have top players and, sorry if I'm arrogant, we have a top manager. Please don't call me arrogant because what I’m saying is true. I'm European champion, so I’m not one out of the bottle. I think I'm a special one."In honour of José Mourinho and the Euros, this is the third match in the “I Think I’m a Special One” post series to assist managers in becoming special managers. Continuing the series on winning strategies, this post focuses on development tactics following the onboarding of new talent.Manchester United's renowned youth academy, famously dubbed the 'Class of 92,' nurtured a remarkable generation of players, among them David Beckham, Ryan Giggs, Paul Scholes, Nicky Butt, and Gary Neville. Recognizing their potential early on, Sir Alex Ferguson integrated them into the squad. The focus on developing youth academy talent, identifying promising players, and providing coaching proved to be a winning strategy. As a result, the Class of '92 contributed significantly to Manchester United's success, winning numerous trophies, including the Premier League, FA Cup, and UEFA Champions League titles throughout the 1990s.Managers must identify talent early, craft tailored training regimens, and implement strategic developmental plans to maximize their performance. Establishing clear progression pathways for your talent sets the stage for their journey from entry-level positions to becoming key members of your own 'Class of 92' squad.Becoming 'The Special One' doesn't happen overnight; creating your 'Class of '92' demands observation and dedication.Euro Fact:Yesterday's match between Turkey and Czechia saw a record-breaking 18 cards shown, 16 yellows and two reds. The highest number ever in a European Championship game.#Management #Development #Leadership #ManchesterUnited

I'm European champion so I’m not one out of the bottle, I think I'm a special one."In honour of José Mourinho and the Euros, this is the second match in the “I Think I’m a Special One” post series to assist managers in becoming special managers. Continuing the series on winning strategies, managers encounter onboarding procedures after scouting and securing new talent.Managers should equip new talent with the necessary knowledge, warm-up training, and position-specific drills to prepare them for upcoming matches. While a press conference isn't mandatory, introducing the new player to the broader team helps facilitate their integration into the squad.During the early days of the transfer, it's crucial for managers to establish probation review goals. They should also offer essential coaching and guidance to their new talent, clarifying the player's position within the team's formation and explaining the overall strategy and tactics. This helps the new hire integrate smoothly and understand their role in the team's approach from the outset.Zlatan Ibrahimović's experiences show the importance of effective onboarding. When he joined PSG in 2012, his successful integration was evident as he scored 30 goals in his debut season, contributing to PSG's Ligue 1 title win. In contrast to his time at FC Barcelona, where he joined in 2009 and departed within a year. When onboarding aligns the player's skills and ambitions with the organization's strategy, both the player and the organization are set up to win trophies and titles. Becoming “The Special One” is a journey and takes patience, with many matches ahead.(On a separate note, FC Barcelona, I am offering a complimentary 30-minute consultation to review the club's onboarding process)Euro Fact: With his goal against Georgia yesterday, Arda Güler, playing for Turkey, has become the youngest player to score on debut in the European Championship at 19 years and 114 days, surpassing the record set by Cristiano Ronaldo in 2004, who was 19 years and 128 days old.

"We have top players and, sorry if I'm arrogant, we have a top manager. Please don't call me arrogant because what I’m saying is true. I'm European champion so I’m not one out of the bottle, I think I'm a special one."In honour of José Mourinho and the Euros, I will be starting a “I Think I’m a Special One” post series to assist managers in becoming special managers. The first match managers face is attracting and recruiting talent. The winning match formation for this is preparation and commitment. Before even kicking off the recruitment process, managers should ensure they have the capacity and energy to play the entire match, even if it goes to penalties. Recruiting is an investment, and prolonging processes may result in talent being scouted by your competitors.Another factor in the winning match formation is the job description. It needs to accurately reflect the responsibilities and the level of the position. Advertising the role as a Goalkeeper but expecting them to fulfil the responsibilities of a Centre Forward is a no-win situation.Having these beautiful basics in place is essential to becoming “The Special One” and attracting your Lionel Messi or Aitana Bonmati to your team. Euro Fact:Euro 2004 started and ended in the same way, with Portugal facing Greece in the opening match and ended with the same teams meeting again in the final. Greece won both encounters: the opening match 2-1 and the final 1-0.

As some of you know, I took a career break for the past few months to solo travel around South America. I’ve seen breath-taking locations during my travels but after a while you become immune to the visual beauty and you are more intrigued with the people you meet along the way with their own unique paths. It has been a very humbling experience for me to be outside my comfort zone. I used to think that I was the best version of myself whilst travelling but I’ve since changed my mindset. I am the best version of myself when I have meaningful connections with people no matter where I am in the world. For this very reason, I have decided to travel again and my destination is the world of HR. I’ve started my own company Dunes HR and I will be continuing my HR journey to provide personal and reliable HR consultancy services. Over the years I have built my HR career by working for the most established brands in the Media industry such as Viacom, MTV, Paramount Pictures, ITN (ITV News, Channel 4 News & Channel 5 News), UKTV (part of BBC Studios) - Dave, Gold, W, Drama, Alibi, Eden and Yesterday. I have gained a wealth of knowledge and established my career path through hard work and determination. I now want to use my HR expertise to form new connections and help build upon the success of other organisations. Why Dunes HR? My approach is simple yet effective, I like to listen first, understand the vision, evaluate the situation and deliver to achieve the desired goal efficiently with a sprinkle of calmness and empathy. My specialism is Generalist HR and Employee Relations, however due to the capacity of my previous positions I have extensive experience in Learning & Development, Talent Acquisition and HR Project Management. As rewarding as it is to be in HR, at times HR teams can also face challenges whilst trying to manage multiple priorities at once. This is where I can provide my expertise and deliver an external consultant view, whilst working within the organisational values. I am always mindful that the principles of HR maybe universal however the application has to incorporate the organisation’s ways of working and vision. The ‘HR Menu’ below provides an overview of the remote consultancy services I can provide. If you’d like to find out more, please direct message me on LinkedIn.Alternatively, if anyone needs a travel itinerary for South America, I can save you hours of research time. Have a lovely bank holiday weekend full of sparkles and sunshine.☀
