New York Jets News: Mike Williams highlights list of players on PUP (2024)

Good morning Gang Green Nation! Wide receiver Mike Williams was placed on the physically unable to perform list before New York Jets training camp starts. It was not a surprising development. The Jets have been consistently saying Williams is on the “Breece Hall schedule.” That should mean limited or no preseason snaps, followed by a gradual phase-in during the regular season, with full recovery and a full regimen of snaps probably not achieved until sometime in October. If Williams is able to fully regain his former form, that should not be a big problem. However, at age 30 Williams has a lot of wear and tear from his NFL career. In addition, a fairly substantial percentage of wide receivers who come back from torn ACLs never regain their prior level of play. Some never make it back at all.

This bears watching. If Williams comes back good as ever, he will be a big upgrade to the Jets passing offense. If, however, Williams struggles in his comeback, the Jets receivers will begin to look mighty sketchy beyond the sublime Garrett Wilson. Fingers crossed Williams follows the Breece Hall arc and comes back with a vengeance by the second half of the season.
