Williams sister Barbara Mathis; 13 grandchildren; a great-grandchild. a Sunday morning ritual in many Washington homes and supplies the substance for many Monday morning newspaper stories. Besides helping create the show, Rountree, a Florida-born former newspaper reporter, was said to be the only woman moderator in its history. Unrehearsed interview shows with statesmen and public figures, commonplace today, were a novelty on the airwaves when Meet the Press began. "I think it is important that the public should hear its elected officers speak out and take their stand in answer to direct questions without preparation or oratory," Rountree said in 1946.

There is nothing so refreshing as unadorned conviction." Among those who appeared on early shows were Harry S. Truman; Sen. Robert Taft, R-Ohio; and Henry Wallace, who had been vice president during Franklin D. Roosevelt's third term. killed by car Deputies said the child appeared to have run into the path of a car.

The boy was taken to Wishard Memorial Hospital, where he died at 11:40 p.m. Police continued an investigation of the accident today. The name of the car's driver has not been released. Mr. Gulliford worked for Anaconda Wire Cable. Previously, he worked for General Tire Rubber Co. A Democrat, he was a City Council member for Ward 4 and a past council president. He was a member of the boards of directors of Salin Bank, Flinn Memorial Home and Community Rehab.

He also was president of the board of directors of the Prince Hall Housing Authority. Mr. Gulliford was a former president of the Marion Park Board and the Marion Urban League board of directors. He was also a former board member of Marion General Hospital, the YMCA and the United Way of Grant County. VIRGINIA M.

She was 87 and had Alzheimer's disease. Meet the Press, the world's longest-running network television show, went on the air in 1945 as a radio show on the Mutual Broadcasting System.
