The increase was $17,000,000,000. A report by the Federal Reserve Board put farm assets at $203,000.000,000 compared with $186,000,000,000 at the end of 1957.

Farm debts went up 000,000. They were reported at $23,300,000,000, compared with $20,200,000,000 a year earlier. Farmers' equities in agricul-1 tural assets were put at about $180,000.000,000 at the end of 1958, compared with 000,000 at the close of 1957. Income Up The report said about half the increase in the value of farm assets last year reflected the rising value of farm real estate. Farm lands and buildings were valued at $125,000.000,000, compared with $116,000,000,000 at the end of 1957.

Farm land values have been going up steadily since 1953. But these figures, said the board, did not tell the full story about farmers' economic situation. "Although rising land values 3 MEN, 2 BOYS ARE ARRESTED IN BURGLARIES Special to The Buffalo Evening News BRADFORD, July 30 Three men and two boys were arrested Wednesday in connection with a series of robberies since the first of the year. Police identified the men charged with burglary as Francis Reed, Ridgway, ly of this city, and Earl R. Gleason and Arthur Holden, both of this city, Th two area boys, 15 and 16 years old respectively, were not identified.

Burglaries involved include the Trading Post, Onoville, and Tack's Inn. According to police the five took clothing, money, food and beverages. The five were being held in the city jail Wednesday to await arraignment today. The boys will be cited for juvenile court action. FIREMEN RESCUE VICTIM OF SMOKE A 32-year-old man suffering from smoke inhalation was rescued from his smoke filled bedroom at 121 Claremont Ave. at 5:30 o'clock this morning by firemen of Engine 19. Fred Gauger was taken to Columbus Hospital, where condition.

he is reported in "good" Battalion Chief Thomas J. McMahon said the fire apparently was caused by careless smoking. He estimated $1000 damage. greatly increased the net worth of farmers and other ers of farm land, they have not improved the situation of farm. ers with respect to income," it said.

Nevertheless, the report said, the net income from agriculture -earnings of farm operators as well as farm laborers and rentals to owners of land--totaled $18,729,000,000 in non 1958, up from 1957. Much Is Inflationary The board said farmers' financial assets--currency, deposits, U. S. Savings Bonds and ments in co- operatives increased $18.200,000.000 in 1957 to $19,000,000,000. Most of this increase was in the Western corn belt and Great Plains States, where returns were big from grain crops and livestock.

The report showed that much year's increase in the value of farm assets reflected inflationary factors. Valued at 1940 prices, the physical assets of agriculture increased about $1,100.000,000 during 1958, it said. The increase resulted mainly from the greater numbers of livestock and poultry on farms and the larger inventories of stored crops. CATTLE RAISERS URGED TO KEEP STANDARDS HIGH Robert Martin, director of Producers Cattle Department, Producers Co-operative Commis. sion Association, Wednesday urged Western New York Angus beef cattle raisers to match the quality of their feed with the desired quality of their stock for maximum market returns.
