Obituaries Edward C. Sargent, 54 Edward Cutler Aurora, president AMSAT Corp. in died yesterday Hospital after i1g months illness with cancer. Mr. Sargent came to Cleveland in 1949 as regional director of the Atomic Energy Commission.

In; 1952 he became project manager of Vitro Division of Vitro when he was named and shortly after Zirconium Corp. Sargent, 54, of and director of Greenville, at St. Luke's Sargent (1953 photo) Engineering Corp. until 1956 vice president president of of America. In 1970 he became president of the newly organized AMSAT, which handles ores, minerals and solid chemicals.

Mr. Sargent was a Navy pilot in World War II and in 1948 was graduated from Cornell University with a chemical engineering degree. He was a past president of the Northeast Ohio YMCA, a founder of the Hattie Larlham Foundation and a member of Chi Psi fraternity. A memorial service will be at 3 p.m. Monday in the Church in Aurora, 146 Chillicothe Rd.

Surviving are his wife, Nancy; sons, Lawrence, David, Edward Jr. and Peter; a brother and a sister. Herman Acks, ex-deputy Herman Acks, 77, of Parma, longtime Cuyahoga County Democratic party worker and retired deputy sheriff, died last night of cancer. Mr. Acks was a deputy from 1936 to 1970 under Sheriffs John Saltzman, Martin L.

O'Donnell, Joseph M. Sweeney, James J. McGettrick and Ralph E. Kreiger. He was forced to retire at 70 after a brutal beating while trying to serve a subpoena.

He became a member of the Cuyahoga County Democratic Club soon after arriving here in 1920 from Romania and was a member William M. Butler Services for William Murray Butler, 69, former Ohio Bell Telephone Co. employe, will be at 1 p.m. Monday at the Busch funeral home, 7501 Ridge Parma. Mr.

Butler died Thursday at his home in Parma after a heart attack. He worked 44 years for Ohio Bell, starting as a lineman and retiring as a member of the engineering department. Mr. Butler was a member of All Saints Episcopal Church, Fairview Masonic Lodge, Al Koran Shrine and the Ohio Bell Acacia Club of Northeast Ohio. He was membership chairman of Al Sirat Grotto and vice president of its Medina Club.

Surviving are his wife, Sadie -daughters, Jeannine Priebe and Judith Schmoll; son, Richard a brother. Agnes H. Waechter Agnes Huffman Waechter, 72, yesterday at her home in Cleveland Heights after a heart attack. 4: Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at St.

Louis Catholic Church, 2475 Taylor Cleveland Heights. Her husband, James is a retired supervisor of personnel at TRW. Inc. She was a member of the National Council of Catholic Women, a former publicity chairman for the St. Louis Parish Women's Guild and a volunteer worker for the St.

Louis Mission Circle. She attended Notre Dame College. Other survivors are a daughter, Marilyn Kinzel, and son, the Rev. Ernest, chaplain of St. Joseph Hospital, Lorain.

for most of his life. He was a precinct committeeman for more than 20 years and ward leader of Ward 24 for many years beginning in 1948. Mr. Acks was an unsuccessful candidate for state representative in 1946 and 1956 and for City Council in 1955. He was awarded The Plain Dealer Citation for Bravery in 1949 after thwarting two holdup men in an East Side bar in December 1948.

Democratic torchlight parades customarily ended at the Acks home on Lakeview Rd. NE and politicians made speeches there for the neighborhood. Before becoming a deputy sheriff, Mr. Acks was proprietor of the old Globe and Haltnorth theaters from 1923 to 1927, was a supervisor for Hupp Motor Co. from 1927 to 1931 and sales manager of Cleveland Wholesale Furniture Co.

from 1931 to 1936. He was a membgr of B'nai B'rith and a former member of the Fellowship of Eagles. Surviving are sons, David, Jerome and Harold, and a sister. Marcella B. Sallot When her husband died in the flu epidemic in 1918, Marcella Bropson Sallot left her 6-month-old son with his grandparents and got a job as a secretary with Schwenger-Klein Co.

Three years later she became secretary to the vice president of the old Sandusky Cement Co. She remained with the company through various mergers until 1958 when she retired as an executive secretary of Medusa Portland Cement Co. She was in charge of the company's insurance program for many years. Mrs. Sallot, 85, died Thursday at Alvernia rest home, Parma.

Services will be at 9:30 a.m. Monday at St. Clement Catholic Church, 2022 Lincoln Lakewood. After retiring, Mrs. Sallot set up and ran a program to teach catechism to retarded children at the St.

Clement church. She was also for many years bistorian for the National Secretaries Association. She was a graduate of West High School and went to night school at John Carroll University and St. John College. Her son, Bernard, survives.

3 Deaths elsewhere From Wire Reports "NEW DELHI India mourned the death of President Fakhruddin Ali Ahmed, 71, with Prime Minister Indira Gandhi leading a silent procession past his body as it lay in state in the presidential palace. In Washington, President Carter expressed "deep personal regret" and said he was sending his mother, Lillian, 78, and his son Chip to represent the United States at Ahmed's funeral tomorrow. CINCINNATI Actress Virginia Payne, who for 27 years was voice of "Ma Perkins" in the radio show which ended in 1960, died here. She was believed to be in her 70s. The native Cincinnatian returned home last year after living 30 years in New York City.
